  文中的luxury就是“奢侈品”的意思,是可数名词,如:She can't afford to spend money on luxuries since her salary is low.(因为她的工资低,所以买不起奢侈品。);也可以解释为“奢侈,豪华”,此时用作不可数名词,如:a life of luxury(奢华的生活)。

  第二句中的quarterly是形容词,意为“季度的”,如:quarterly report(季度报告);也可以作名词,解释为“季刊”,如:literary quarterlies(文学季刊)。
